The original intention to create a multifunctional object on Freedom Square in Brno, which would not only fulfil an informational function, but would also bring a new aesthetic quality to the given space, was extended by the authors with a historical reflection.
The object is made of black polished granite in the shape of a gigantic, almost 6 m high, bullet. It is a reminder of the siege of the city of Brno by Swedish troops in 1645. In relation to this siege, noon in Brno traditionally rings at 11 o’clock instead of 12. In honour of the heroic ancestors, and for the amusement of contemporaries, the new multifunctional object in Brno rings with a carillon melody exactly at 11 a. m. every day and releases a glass ball in the colours of Brno, which can be captured at the end of its path in one of four openings at the bottom of the stone casing. The clock device itself is located in the two highest rotating segments of the machine. The time measurement is unconventionally presented in parts of clear optical glass.
