Funerary statue at the honorary urn burial ground
The honorary urn burial ground of the Central Cemetery did not give visitors clear information about the significance of the place and was difficult to identify within the cemetery. For this reason, the space was defined by the location of a monumental contemporary sculpture, which is also a tribute to all important personalities buried in the Central Cemetery.
A lapidary abstract form with an organic accent, the idea of which is the take-off of an angel, was chosen for the finalisation of the work. The creator of the statue thus avoided religious symbols to make clear that devotees of different faiths and non-believers could be buried in the place of reverence. The convincing impression of the work is emphasized by the chosen material imitating the so-called Swedish granite, which combines polished surfaces with a raw structure. The base of the monument is completed by Jan Skácel’s verse “… And that is all that remains of the angels”.
