Adolf Loos

The monument was developed as a concrete statue mould of Adolf Loos’ tombstone, which is situated at the Central Cemetery in Vienna. The tombstone was proposed by the architect himself. Therefore, Adolf Loos’ proposal is newly interpreted in a symbolic way while using classic sculpting processes. The main idea of the proposal is to make a negative (imprint) of Loos’ last resting place for the location where he lived and grew up. With the tombstone being in Vienna and its mould in Brno, both places are connected in an imaginary way. At the same time, the conceptual work with its inner composition ingeniously refers to Loos’ unique principle of interior arranging – the so-called raumplan. The composition is enlivened and accented by onyx elements shining after dark.
